Beauty standards in the 21st century
Thigh gaps, hourglass figure, flawless skin, extreme tans, very short shorts, excessive skin showing, etc., etc., etc.
You know what? Who cares. I, personally, am done with today’s beauty standards. Who needs ‘em? Why do we constantly let magazines and social media control us and tell us what to do, what to wear, what to eat, and what we should look like? Why do we thrive and desire to look like those girls on magazine covers or our fave celebrities?
It ridiculous and impossible to strive for that which we call “Perfection” when it comes to beauty. You want to know why? Because our standards for beauty today are so utterly skewed. How can we reach “Perfection” when what we seek can only be achieved through Photoshoping?
The answer is simple. We can’t.
So what are we supposed to do now? Well I can think of one thing. Let’s throw the world’s beauty standards out the window and start afresh.
First off no more of this starving ourselves to reach the “perfect” weight or skinniness! Because it’s a) unattainable and b) unhealthy! Yes you should eat healthily but that doesn’t mean eating so little amounts of food to the point where you feel dizzy and about to faint.
Second off let’s start dressing in clothes that we like and are comfortable in. No more of those fashion trend pieces that make us feel stupid or inadequate. Ladies dress for yourself and no one else! Especially not some guy who wants you to dress in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable and that is for his pleasure alone. Dress in what makes you comfortable and what makes you feel like you!
Thirdly let’s stop it with the ridiculous amounts of makeup. Especially all the crazy contouring that’s in fashion currently. I don’t understand the need to cover up your natural beauty with a bucket load of makeup. It’s crazy. Hardly do the girls with all that makeup on look anything close to the naturally beautiful face they have underneath it. Now I do admit that I would probably be the same way if I had not discovered (by the way of my mom. I know, shocking. My mother was right) Bobbi Brown cosmetics. Bobbi Brown is an amazing woman with a mission to help women of all ages to see their natural beauty and to accentuate it with the help of makeup. I absolutely love her makeup tutorials! I would definitely urge any girl interested in makeup to check out her website.
Now these are beauty standards that I could live by. How about you?
Here’s a song that I feel embodies everything I just talked about
